Lovely Shades

Here's what I started with (all Sabracon F dyes from ProChem):

Blue F-42

 fuschia.jpg
Yellow F-11

Fuschia F-35

The yellow is not showing correctly on my monitor - it is definitely a clear yellow, not gold. The blue and fuschia look true to me.

Here's the results:

The left column are 1%DOS; the right are .5%. I switched to a smaller brush after the first few rows and there weren't as many blotches. For the next samples I'm going to have to keep an eye on how much dye I'm laying down. I guess there's a limit to how much moisture the paper can absorb!

On the back of each strip:

I'm not sure how I'm going to store these. Maybe page protectors or maybe punch a hole on each end and keep them on a binder ring. It's heavy watercolor paper so it should be sturdy enough for that.

Something for you to ponder - why did finding this make me so happy?

  1. Sara uses those page protectors you get at Staples, in a big three ring binder.
Actually, I've got tons of samples waiting for this exact treatment.

  2. Are they the size of 35mm negatives? I used to put all my negatives in binders, using plastic sheets with 35mm sleeves. They must still make these, and need to re-purpose them now that everyone's gone digital...

Love all the little color strips...I guess to be used for future color references, right?

I use the page protectors for baseball/hockey card collectors for my spinning samples. A bit larger than the 35mm slides. Still easy to store in a binder yet have them laid out in progression. Lovely work!! Thanks for sharing!

  5. I keep my spinning samples wrapped around embroidery thread cards and stored in embroidery thread card pouches... Er, they are just like the slide/card/whatever protectors everyone else talks about, but smaller, since embroidery thread cards are smaller. They're 3-ring punched and store in standard school binders.
